We received news that Alan Roof has been called to serve on the Board of Directors
of the United Church of Christ Disabilities Ministries for a six year term. Alan, a
member of Central Congregational UCC, Atlanta, and a chaplain at Shepherd
Rehabilitation Hospital in Atlanta, has a long history of engagement in the area of
disabilities ministries.

The Church and Ministry Committee of the
Georgia- South Carolina Association has approved
John and Rebecca Shillingburg as students in
care of the Association following their interview
with the In Care Committee of the association on
February 13th. John and Rebecca are long time
members of Church of the Savior, Roswell, GA,
and spoke with the Committee with their pastor,
Chris Graham present. They are both full-time
students at Columbia Theological Seminary,
and look forward to a ministry in rural churches.

We are pleased to announce that Allen Hollis was installed as the interim pastor of
Riverview Christian Church in Valley AL, on February 8th. Allen has been granted
Ordained Ministerial Partnership by the Alabama Region of the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ). Present at the service were Conference Minister Tim Downs, and
Regional Minister for the Alabama Region, John Mobley, who preached. Allen is
remembered as having served over the years at First United Church of Christ,
Nashville, and United Church UCC, Huntsville.

With our apologies, we included the happy news in our last
newsletter of the wedding of Lillian Hallstrand, a student in care
of the Alabama-Tennessee Association, and member of Brookmeade
Congregational UCC, Nashville. We did not however, include this
lovely photograph.

Bob and Beth Hurst led a group tour of Egypt and Israel, leaving
in early February. Bob is the pastor of United Church,
Huntsville (UCC). The tour was to explore interfaith themes, and
to talk about the possibilities of peace between the West and the
Islamic world.

Linda Smith, a member of Central Congregational UCC, Atlanta, reports to us that
she continues in a ministry which has taken her to many settings of human need. She
lectures at the Emory School of Nursing on issues of spirituality, and works with a multi-
disciplinary team providing care in local assisted living centers nursing homes and
residences for Compassionate Care Hospice.

Phil Price, a UCC minister, recently granted ordained ministerial partnership by the
Georgia Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and serving as pastor of
Sandy Springs Christian Church, in the Atlanta area, informed us of the death of
his mother following a brief period of illness. Her funeral was held in the beginning of
February. Phil served as interim minister at Central Congregational UCC, Atlanta last
year.

Lawrence Clark, recently retired, and serving part-time in a small Presbyterian
congregation in the Nashville area, alerted us to the sudden passing of his mother at the
end of January. Lawrence is a member of Brookmeade Congregational UCC,
Nashville.

Many of you are aware of the death of Millard Fuller, the founder of Habitat for
Humanity on February 3rd. However, some do not know that Millard was raised in the
Congregational Christian Church of Lanett, a UCC congregation, and credits the
United Church of Christ for opening his life and heart to the world and its needs as a
young man. Millard became a millionaire by the age of 29, and then gave up all of his
